Megan’s Body…
I mean Jennifer’s Body
is an interesting trip into the
world of teenage horror movies.
Megan Fox is Jennifer Check, a
teenager who gets sacrificed to the
devil and turned into a demon by a
terrible up and coming band called
Low Shoulder. The band brutally
murders Jennifer so they can make it
… needless to say they won’t be
making it on Alternative Addiction’s
Unsigned Top 10… not cool. The movie
takes place in a town called Devil’s
Kettle. The band chose the town to
make their sacrifice because it has
a waterfall that things get thrown
in… and then never come out of. When
Jennifer gets sacrificed she doesn’t
die, she comes back as a demon that
needs to eat human flesh and blood
to survive. She goes on a killing
spree in the small town, seducing
young men…. Until they’re vulnerable
enough so that she can murder them
and eat them.
A few problems pop up
with the movie. The script is a bit
rough in places. The dialogue is
intentionally trashy with some
double- entendre talk. It’s witty to
an extent, but it’s still rough to
sit through in places. Not because
it’s offensive, but because it’s
just dumb. The plotline also doesn’t
make total sense. Needy Lesnicky
(Amanda Seyfried) is the heroine of
our film. And that’s fine, her being
the hero makes the movie for the
teenage girl demo. But here’s the
thing, no everything a teenage girl
makes sense but nobody makes the
decisions she makes in the movie…
Rationality is definitely was
missing in parts of the script. It’s
a movie, that’ fine, but some things
were stretched too far to make the
script work. It’s hard to grasp
those decisions and it ruins part of
the movie.
The acting was done well in
Jennifer’s Body, JK Simons
has a terrible role as a teacher at
the high school but he’s good as he
always is. Amanda Seyfried was great
in the lead role of Needy. She acts
out two different characters in the
movie and she has to act out the
transition between those two
characters as well. She did a great
job even though her character wasn’t
100% written correctly. Megan Fox
is Megan Fox. She’s super sexy in
this role. Even when she’s gorging
herself on some dude’s stomach she’s
still hot.
The Blu-Ray features are decent.
Packaging is good with a DVD, Blu-Ray,
and Digital Copy of the film but the
behind the scenes looks aren’t very
good and the bonus features are
really bare bones in that area.
Megan’s Body….
I mean Jennifer’s Body
was decent. At the very least it was
original. It’s good to see something
new come out of the horror genre
instead of the same franchises
getting dozens of sequels. Director
Karyn Kusama can be proud of some
stellar work here and the actors all
did a great job. Jennifer’s
Body will leave you with a
question. Do you run and stay away?
Or do make out with Megan Fox and
die a horrible death? Your call.
