The Short: It’s true that it’s not for everybody… really most people over 45 should just ignore this altogether, but like me… several people will find this hilarious.

Sadly, you can look at Jackass in a historical context. It’s true! Think about YouTube, FailBlog, reality TV, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and everything else that comes from the new media and internet generation… It all comes from people wanting other people to be interested in them and being famous for nothing doesn’t it? Maybe, that’s going a little bit overboard with ‘historical’ and ‘Jackass’ in the same sentence, but you can’t help but look at Jackass as being famous early on in the reality TV game, and then the movies becoming hugely popular due in large part to the internet generation being infatuated with stupid things caught on camera.

Jackass 3 is like Jackass and Jackass 2 before it… the same dumb guys do gross and dumb things on camera and everybody laughs. That’s the general idea with Jackass. That was the idea with the TV show and that’s the idea with the movies. The best way to look at this movie; How do the stunts compare to the two previous efforts? On the gross scale, Jackass 2 wins; Jackass 3 comes in at second. There are several gross stunts, usually with Steve-O involved and if you’ve got a strong stomach you’ll laugh incessantly at these skits. They’re cringe-worthy sure, but there’s also a steady amount of laughs that are accompanied by ‘why?!?!’. On the danger scale of stunts, Jackass 3 doesn’t really have as many as Jackass 2 did either. Don’t get me wrong, everything looks like it hurts, but it seems like they were doing stupider things in Jackass 2 and they took out a large chunk of the action sports dynamic that Jackass and Jackass 2 had incorporated. There were some things, but Bam spent a lot more time at the skate park in the previous two movies. And to some extent… that stuff is missed here.

As far as the extras go on Jackass 3 there’s an abundant amount of outtakes, which aren’t like run of the mill outtakes either. There’s 27 minutes worth of stunts that didn’t look good enough on camera and things that were too gross or too weird to include. There are also some deleted scenes/stunts from the movie included on the Blu-ray. The outtakes are funny if you’re into some gross stuff, but the deleted scenes were probably cut for a reason. Jackass 3 has a decent amount of extras but it would have been cooler to get some interviews with the guys and director Jeff Tremaine. They could have done better, but this is good enough.

Jackass 3 isn’t better or worse than Jackass 2 or plain-old Jackass. It’s another installment with several funny and gross stunts that will make you laugh until your sides hurt. It’s true that it’s not for everybody… really most people over 45 should just ignore this altogether, but like me… several people will find this hilarious.
