With
Disney at the helm
of Marvel we’re
going to get a lot
of cartoons out of
the vault that we
haven’t seen in a
few years. This is
great news. The
latest Marvel
cartoon to find its
way out of the vault
is
Marvel Iron Man: The
Complete Animated
Series.
The series
originally ran in
1994 and it’s a
great look-back at a
short but fun
cartoon from the
90’s.
In
this creation of
Iron Man the
animation isn’t
great but it’s
passable. It’s
definitely not
superior to X-Men,
but it’s not that
much worse. The
laughable parts of
the animation are
the computer
generated scenes.
That’s right… the
computer generated
scenes. I should
really make that
singular, there is
just one scene. It’s
when Tony Stark puts
on his armor. It’s
the same scene, and
the same background,
no matter where he’s
at and it looks
terrible. Remember
Windows 95 gaming
and those types of
graphics? Welcome to
Iron Man’s suit
animation! Quality
stuff.
Oddly
enough, I can
remember watching
this when I was nine
and thinking it was
amazing.
The
voices in this
series were
interesting. There
are two notables.
Iron Man was voiced
by Robert Hays. Hays
is most known for
his work in
Airplane!
as the hero Ted
Stryker. War Machine
was voiced by James
Avery. James Avery
is most known for
yelling at Will
Smith and then
teaching him lessons
as Uncle Phil in
The
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
He did a ton of
cartoon work in the
90’s. Both actors
are interesting
choices and it’s
funny to hear them
both making
super-hero type
lines throughout the
series.
The best part of
this series is the
amount of the
characters that are
involved with the
show. You get to see
Scarlett Witch,
Spider Woman, War
Machine, Nick Fury,
and Hawkeye. You
also get to see The
Mandarin repeatedly
along with Modock
and Fing Fang Foom
among others.
There’s a strong
collection of
characters from the
Marvel Universe here
and it makes the
series enjoyable.
This
series comes on a
3-disc DVD. There
are two seasons of
the show to go
through. The first
season is a little
strange as the
series was trying to
find its path. The
second season gets a
little better, and
even a little dark
in places with Tony
faking a wedding and
his death.
This
animated series was
one of the stranger
shows to come out of
the Marvel world but
it was enjoyable
one. Your kids will
love this show and
for a 3-disc DVD set
there’s a lot of
Iron Man action to
be had.
