The Short: Iron Man 2 isn't great but it isn't terrible. The graphics aren’t great and there are some bugs to deal with but a good story, a good concept, a good control system, and actors from the movie voicing the characters make it more enjoyable. It’s not a great game but as far as licensed titles go it’s not awful.

The customization and the amount of flare in Iron Man 2 make it a decent game. It’s cool to unlock different versions of the Iron Man armor and it’s cool to upgrade different weapons and ammunitions. The game itself is an awesome concept too. The mechanics are decent and the textures and graphics are good too, the problem is there are a ton of bugs throughout the game and some are too frustrating to continue playing.

Visually this isn’t an impressive title. Honestly it looks like it could be a title on the previous generation of systems. The unarmored characters look terrible, sometimes ridiculously so.  There are lots of outdoor levels and when it’s just sky and clouds, it looks fine. But there is a level at the beginning of the game with a lot of mountains and that type of terrain. There’s no detail. You don’t see trees or anything like that just a texture on the mountain. There wasn’t any effort put into it. The menu style is sleek  and Iron Man and War Machine look fairly good too- in costume, but the lack of effort put into designing some of the levels is disappointing.

The controls and the concept of Iron Man 2 are the fun parts of the game. The game isn’t that impressive graphically but the concept of the game is fun. You go through a different story than the movie, so you get a different story to work through that doesn’t spoil the movie. The levels aren’t boring or repetitive. You fly around, blow up stuff and advance the story. It’s a decent enough approach and it works fine. The controls are a little bit tricky with a strange targeting system and an even stranger flying system but after a few tries you’ll catch on to things and the game becomes pretty fun. It may be fun to play but there are some frustrating moments too. There are a lot of struggles with clipping throughout the title. Your enemies will get blasted into walls until they magically come back into play on the indoor levels. In the previously mentioned mountain level if you fly to low and close to a mountain, they’ll just disappear and everything will look terrible. Not fun.

The audio is the best part of Iron Man 2. With voices from the real actors it’s more fun to play through the title. You get to hear Sam Jackson as Nick Fury. Don Cheadle as War Machine and Downey Jr. as Iron Man. It’s good that they got the actual actors to contribute to the audio of the title and it makes the game more enjoyable than it otherwise would have been.

Iron Man 2 isn't great but it isn't terrible. The graphics aren’t great and there are some bugs to deal with but a good story, a good concept, a good control system, and actors from the movie voicing the characters make it more enjoyable.
