The iPod Touch is basically an iPhone without a built-in microphone,
without the phone (obviously), and without a camera. It’s a lot of
things, but it doesn’t have those key components. Still, if you’re stuck
in a long term contract or you’re in a area where AT&T doesn’t have
strong service, carrying around an iPod Touch is very useful and can
provide tons of solutions to your work and recreation problems.
The first thing of note that an iPod Touch does is really what a lo0t of
cell phones do these days. You can check weather, scores, you have a
calendar, an alarm clock, a calculator, an address book and a notepad to
take notes. Cell phones may be able to do all of these tasks, but the
difference between using a cell phone for this stuff and using an iPod
Touch is staggering. As long as I’m in a hotspot, I can check the
weather in an easy to read five day extended forecast. I can also set my
alarm clock faster and easier on an iPod Touch. My calendar appointments
and interview times are easy to type in with the touch screen keypad,
and the notifications aren’t bad. The notepad with the iPod’s key pad is
extremely useful. I’ve written whole podcasts, reviews, and small
articles on the iPod Touch. It helps me work, it helps me get up and get
to work.
Other than those utility work related tasks, iPod Touch does bonus tasks
too. Again, as long as you’re near a hotspot, you can watch YouTube
videos, check your stocks, and look up maps. You can also save your
photos on your iPod and look at those in it’s great interface.
So the iPod Touch already does a ton with what we just mentioned, but
it’s a great iPod first and foremost. It’s got a crystal-clear beautiful
3.5" screen, that of course you can touch and interact with. It’s
amazing to watch movies and TV shows on. Really it’s the best iPod to
watch movies and TV shows on because of it’s display. It’s also great
for music because of how you interact with your music- it’s awesome to
run cover flow on an iPod Touch. Far better than it is on any other iPod
or computer.
The iPod Touch is also an amazing game player. There are tons of games
to play on the Touch, all of them are cheap to reasonable, and a good
chunk of them you can try lesser versions of them for free before you
buy the full game for a price. You have all of these games and the
limitless potential that is the App store at your fingertips.
So the iPod Touch is amazing iPod and it’s also basically a cell phone
without a the phone part. The best part about it and the most useful
part about it, is it’s pocket PC functions. As long as you’re in a
hotspot, you can browse the internet and check your email. Just like
with a laptop, but without carrying around that bulk.
Lots of cell phone companies are trying to emulate the iPhone in one way
or another. They brag about running apps and doing this and that, but
they don’t have the 360 degree power that the iPhone has with iTunes and
with the App store. I’m stuck with a carrier for awhile, but instead of
spending big money on a phone that can’t do as much as easy as an iPhone
can, I can stick with a fairly basic phone and carry around an iPod
Touch too. It helps me on a day to day basis, and although it’s not an
iPhone, it’s pretty close.
