Inglorious Bastards
is an odd piece from Tarantino. It's
broken into parts that work together
but divide evenly and It follows
Brad Pit as Lt. Aldo Raine and his
crew of angry Jewish men in World
War II as they’re out to destroy the
Nazis, Hitler, and really anybody
that gets in their way of doing so.
It's an odd piece and definitely one
worth watching and Quentin Tarantino
delivers with another classic.
From the marketing campaign one
would think that this movie has more
action than it actually is. While
there are moments, there are more
moments of long, stagnant, drawn-out
dialogue that take too long to run
through. This is a movie that’s
really more about the tension of the
moment ala
Pulp Fiction
than the action and reaction of the
moment. I wouldn’t go as far as to
say it’s a thriller because it’s not
that full of dialog but basically
you would have like to have seen
Aldo and the Basterds kill more
Nazis. Still, the ending is
surprising, the action is intense
and Pitt is better here than he’s
ever been. He’s funny, he’s
captivating, and damnit he’s
awesome. I completely forgive him
for the awfulness that was
Troy
just because of this movie.
On Blu-Ray,
Inglorious Basterds
is awesome. You get extended and
alternate scenes, a round table
discussion, the making of the movie
within the movie- “Nation’s Pride”
and you get to see that movie too.
You also get a conversation with Rod
Taylor and a few other featurettes.
BD-LIVE also has a cool
game feature
called "Killin’ Nazis Trivia
challenge". You also get a digital
copy of the movie that you can
easily import into iTunes or Windows
quick and easily, which is
appreciated.
Another Tarantino piece of genius,
Basterds
is a welcome addition to the World
War II movie genre even though you
can’t really put it into that
category. It’s a World War II
fantasy movie where for once you get
to see what the Nazis had coming to
them. It could have been better with
more action and a straight forward
approach but it’s still a damn-good
movie and Pitt’s performance is his
best.
Inglorious Basterds
is definitely worth looking into on
DVD and Blu-Ray.
