IMAX: Under the Sea
is a movie best
viewed for where it
was meant to be
viewed. At an IMAX
theatre. No matter
how big of a TV we
can fit through our
front doors now, we
can't have an IMAX
screen in our living
room. Blu-Ray is
going to have to do
it for IMAX: Under
the Sea, and it does
just fine.
The movie is
narrated by Jim
Carrey and it takes
the audience on a
short but memorable
ride through the
coral triangle of
Indonesia, New
Guinea, and the
Great Barrier Reef
in Australia. The
movie shows you all
kinds of different
under the sea life
that most of us have
never gotten to see
before including Sea
Snakes, Cuttlefish,
and Dragon Fish. The
animals that
director Howard Hall
and his team were
able to document in
high-def are both
stunning and
beautiful. You'll
see everything under
the sea from Sharks,
Seals, and Snakes to
Crabs, Eels, and
some very
odd-looking fish.
The picture for
IMAX: Under the Sea
is what you would
expect. It's
beautiful. Only Blu-Ray
can bring the ocean
to your living room
with this much
detail. Howard Hall,
and his wife
Michelle, along with
the rest of their
team went to great
lengths to capture
all of the under the
sea moments and you
can really
appreciate them in
Blu-Ray.
There are a couple
of disappointing
things with
IMAX:
Under the Sea. The
first has to be it's
runtime. It's only
40 minutes long. You
see some amazing
things so it's
forgivable, but you
would have liked to
have seen at least
20 minutes more of
footage. The other
thing that's
disappointing is the
narration. Jim
Carrey narrates this
movie and he does a
good job. But if
you're expecting
this to be a goofy
and entertaining
just because Jim
Carrey does the
narration you're
going to be
disappointed. It's
pretty standard as
far as narrations go
but with a couple of
jokes. The only
other disappointment
with this Blu-Ray
are the bonus
features. All there
is on the disc is a
look at the crew
filming at each
location in the form
of webisodes.
The special features
and the short
duration are
slightly
disappointing but
other than that
IMAX: Under the Sea
is a good home-video
release. The
creatures and
environments look
awesome on Blu-Ray
and it's 40 minutes
of looking into
something most of us
won't get to see.
