The
first
Hoodwinked
didn’t come out to
rave reviews but the
kids loved it.
Hoodwinked Too! Hood
vs. Evil
has a similar theme
going for it. There
are family nights
where you pop in a
movie and the whole
family enjoys the
story, this movie
isn’t for that
night.
Hoodwinked Too! Hood
vs. Evil,
will entertain the
kids in the 5-8
range… parents
aren’t going to be
crazy about this
one.
Hoodwinked
ended when Red,
Granny Puckett, the
Big Bad Wolf, and
Twitchy the Squirrel
foiled Boingo the
Bunny’s plot for
domination.
Hoodwinked Too!
picks up with Red
training with an
elite group of
special agents… the
Sisters of the Hood.
The Sisters of the
Hood are in charge
of guarding a secret
truffle recipe that
makes whoever eats
it all-powerful.
While Red is
training with the
sisters, Twitchy,
Granny Puckett, and
the Big Bad Wolf are
working for the
Happily Ever After
Agency. On a mission
to save two
kidnapped kids,
Hansel and Gretel,
Wolf decides to go
‘super cop’ and he
foils a rescue as
the witch who
kidnapped Hansel &
Gretel gets away
with Granny too.
After that, it’s up
to Red to reunite
with her team and to
save Granny Puckett.
But she’ll discover
that fairy tale
detective work isn’t
easy.
Hoodwinked Too! Hood
vs. Evil
is a bit of a mess
but it wasn’t really
expected to wow
families and critics
alike. Let’s face
it, this is for the
under 10 crowd and
that crowd will like
this movie. The
humor is fairly
simple and easy for
them to get. They
recognize the
characters from
their stories and
it’s cool to see
those characters in
an action setting
instead of a fairy
tale setting. A good
story and some good
voicing done by the
cast make this
enjoyable for kids,
Patrick Warburton,
Glen Close, Hayden
Panettiere, Bill
Hader, and tons more
contribute voice
work to the film and
that makes it
somewhat enjoyable
for grown-ups. The
story and the script
lack a lot of punch
but there doesn’t
need to be a ton of
punch for that under
10 crowd.
As far as extras on
the DVD go, there’s
not a ton. There’s
the typical voice
cast talking about
voice work feature.
Then there are also
three different
music videos. That’s
about the extent of
it.
As I said before,
parents aren’t going
to like this movie.
They’ll probably
dread when it’s put
in. I’m not going to
lie. It’s not great
and it’s not on par
with other movies in
the genre. BUT kids
will love this movie
and that’s who’s
going to watch it
most.
