Classic Disney
cartoons will always
hold a special place
with me. When I was
six there was a
bunch of cool stuff
on Disney Channel
with the main thing
being the classic
Disney cartoons
starring Mickey,
Donald, Goofy, and
the rest of the
gang. They had the
Mousterpiece Theatre
format and I watched
that whenever I got
the chance. Over the
past decade or so
though, those
cartoons were only
shown on special
occasions. But after
testing the water
with a couple of
cartoons as shorts
before feature
films, they brought
them back to Disney
Channel with the
Have
a Laugh!
short
feature.
Have
a Laugh!
is one of my
favorite programs on
Disney Channel and
both of my little
boys love the great
old-school Mickey
cartoons.
Since
running the shorts,
Disney has released
Have
a Laugh!
on DVD in a few
volumes. Volumes 3
and 4 just came out
and both volumes are
great to watch. For
Volume 4 included on
the disc are five
great Disney
cartoons:
Mickey Down
Under (1948)
Mickey and Pluto are
on a hike in
Australia. What you
need to know about
this one... cartoon dogs
and boomerangs are
funny to everyone.
Hawaiian
Holiday (1937)
Mickey, Donald,
Minnie, and Goofy
are hanging out in
Hawaii. Goofy is
terrible at surfing
but Donald is great
at the hula.
Trailer Horn
(1950)
Chip
and Dale torture
Donald while he's
trying to camp in
the wilderness and
get some rest and
relaxation. They
torture Donald with
his trailer horn and
ruin his vacation.
How to Swim
(1942)
Another classic
Goofy/Narrator short
cartoon with Goofy
rocking some
old-school 1940's
garb. I'm beginning
to think if you want
to teach anything,
Goofy might not be
the best choice of
instructor.
Pluto's
Surprise Package
(1949)
Pluto
gets more than he
bargained for when
he's trying to bring
in Mickey's mail.
There's a package in
the mail, it has
legs and it keeps
getting away from
Pluto.
Have a
Laugh
is a great short
feature on Disney
Channel and it’s
great that they're
now on DVD. The fact
that they bundling
these volumes with a
decent amount of
bonus features AND
they're remastered are
both huge perks. The
bonus features with
the ReMicks music
montage (It's the
Jonas Bros. on
Volume 4) and the
Bam! features are
cool add-ons. It
would have been a
little better if
they would have put
10 cartoons instead
of 5 with the
suggested retail
price like I've said
before, but this is
still a great
pickup.
