Halo legends is
a collection of anime shorts from
various directors with various
styles that all tell different types
of stories. There are seven stories
on the disc told in eight parts.
Some of the stories are solid
stories, others are slightly out
there and aren’t re-watchable or
even watchable. But here’s the
thing. They all have a piece to the
puzzle. Halo is turning into a
sci-fi universe. Just like Star
Wars, every piece created has a
piece of its own history. All
of these stories have a piece of
that history. They show you the
history of why the rings were
created and they also show how the
Spartans were created and what some
of them had to go through. A few
other pieces are given from various
parts of the Halo saga but watching
this collection of cartoons will
fill you in on those.
These stories are at their best when
they’re not introducing new
characters. The cartoons that can be
enjoyed more are the cartoons that
are telling stories with existing
characters and concepts. When the
Master Chief is in the story it’s a
good story. No matter how little
he’s in it. When there is a story
that doesn’t feature any character
from the game then it’s not a good
story. That’s pretty simple.
The different types of animation
featured are however very cool. No
story feels the same because no
story looks the same. All of these
stories look completely different
from each other. Most of the time, I
hate story collections. There’s no
consistency and there’s a letdown
from story to story. In this case,
because everything looks differently
you’re not expecting any kind of
consistency. It works.
Halo Legends is a fun
collection of stories from the Halo
Universe. Not all of the stories are
good but most of them are. If you
are obsessed with Halo games and the
stories told inside those games then
you’ll love these stories,
especially if you have an affinity
for anime. You’ve got to love the
different stories told in different
styles and seeing Master Chief in
action for longer than two minutes
is awesome.
