Anyone who claims to
love first person
shooters but doesn’t
want to pick up the
new
Halo
game is off their
rocker. That’s what
I’ve decided after
playing the game for
two straight weeks.
Microsoft rolled out
the game and sent
along a review copy
for us to check out
recently and it’s
amazing. Even before
Halo
got the update with
Halo:
Combat Evolved
I frequently
revisited the game
to play through the
campaign.
Traditional ways to
play the game online
have been extinct
for awhile, but
playing the game’s
outstanding campaign
is something that
you can do with the
original Xbox disc
on the Xbox 360.
Anyway, now you can
play through a ton
of multiplayer stuff
with
Halo:
Combat Evolved,
and you can play
through that
outstanding campaign
with updated
graphics.
Everyone knows the
story of
Halo
by now. In the
future, there’s a
war that’s being
waged between the
alien race known as
The Covenant against
mankind. The
Covenant seeks to
find an ancient
weapon to destroy
all life and of
course mankind seeks
to stop them. An
epic battle ensues
between the
covenant, and some
gross parasitic
creatures coming
from the weapon.
All
of the multiplayer
maps from
Halo:
Reach
and all of the
updated graphics are
notable with
Halo:
Combat Evolved.
The graphics
themselves aren’t
over the top amazing
and updated but
they’re done
serviceably so it’s
recognizable.
There’s also a cool
feature that lets
you push a button to
see the graphics as
how they used to be
with the old version
of the game to how
they are now with
the way they have
been updated. The
switch takes about a
second and a half
though so don’t
expect to see the
difference in the
baddies between the
old game and the new
one. The updated
graphics, the
multiplayer, and the
ability to switch
between the two
game/graphics modes
are all very cool
but the main reason
to play this tile is
because it’s
Halo
title. This game
saved Xbox and it
helped create the
Xbox 360 into what
it is today. Without
this game there’d be
no obsession with
playing Call of Duty
multiplayer. Sure
it’s not amazing as
a
Halo:
Reach
or a
Halo
3
but it’s still
pretty cool and it
lets you get your
multiplayer
Halo
fix with the
original game again,
something that’s
been missing for
awhile now. To make
things even more
enticing for a
purchase, the price
tag is $20 down from
a normal retail game
so it’s a can’t-miss
present for the
holidays.
Halo:
Combat Evolved
isn’t a remarkable
Halo
title that
Halo
4
is
expected to be next
year. Really it’s
just a stroll down
memory lane. Lucky
for us that stroll
down memory lane
includes awesome
plasma grenades and
kicking some
Covenant ass. This
will tide people
over until
Halo
4.
