After Halo Wars
and the general pissing off of
thousands of fans that really just
don't pay attention, Microsoft came
back with a more traditional Halo
game in Halo 3 ODST. And while
you'll never be able to match the
intensity and the fun of playing
through that first Halo, Halo 3 ODST
adds some stuff in to make it close.
The story is more
elaborate this time around. You're
following multiple characters here
and while sometimes it can get a
little confusing, it somewhat adds
to the effect of the game. Nathan
Fillion of TV's Castle is the star
of the game and really he threw
himself into the role in the video
game more than I've heard a lot of
actors do it and he wins some points
for that. The other actors aren't
bad but he wins in that area.
As for the
controls- the more real Halo gets,
the harder it gets. With the
original Halo you could always count
on that slight cartoon feel to make
you feel a little bit better about
some intense situations. not so much
in Halo 3 ODST. Once you start
getting into bigger enemies. It's
pretty much on and on ferociously.
You'll get them taken down, don't
get me wrong but you're going to
die a
few times on your way. It's like
this with the simplest of enemies
too- everything is a little bit more
intimidating. Maybe it's because
you're storyline seems so much more
dramatic with the actors and the
setup but it really does.
Halo 3 ODST is
a
return
to tradition and a return to form. I
was a big fan of Halo Wars, but
something about the way Halo was
meant to be played will always be
the best way to play it.
