Ghostbusters The Video Game could be
the best gaming experience that
comes out all this year. Basically
it's the third movie in the series,
except it's the game. The storyline
was written by Dan Aykroyd and
Harold Ramis. The voices in the game
are all the originals from the
movie- Bill Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis,
and Ernie Hudson all reprise their
roles as The Ghostbusters. William
Atherton is back as the annoying
Walter Peck, even Annie Potts is
back as the Ghostbusters'
receptionist Janine Mellnitz. All
those actors are in the game AND
Alyssa Milano is added as the
romantic interest for Venkman
(Murray), something that everybody
has griped about but nobody has
realized that it ties the story
together with a few different levels
on a few different levels. And it
wouldn't be Ghostbusters if Venkman
was hitting on women and then
winning them over. It's a key part
of the stories.
So the actors, the characters, and
the storyline are all top notch but
what makes this game really unique
is the person playing the game. You
take the role of "the rookie" or
basically just a nameless character
and you're one of the Ghostbusters.
This is cool because you don't have
to choose between the four
Ghostbusters and really it just adds
to the story and who is available to
do what in the game as the storyline
progresses.
Gameplay is awesome- you've got two
different streams that you can fire
off with your blaster and each
stream does different things in the
game. It's a third person game and
sometimes the camera can be a tad
glitchy but other than that there
are really no problems. There's a
slight learning curve with the
controls but after a half hour or so
you'll be ready to go.
Ghostbusters the Video Game is a
unique gaming experience. It brings
almost all of the qualities of a
third Ghostbusters movie to a video
game. Everything here is insanely
fun and cool- graphics, sound,
gameplay, and story. An awesome
video game.
