The
Fantastic Mr. Fox
is based on the
Roald Dahl classic.
Director Wes
Anderson took the
story, took the
heart of it, the
characters and the
plot, expanded them
and made a
stop-motion
animation movie
that’s a unique
adventure fit for
the family.
In
The
Fantastic Mr. Fox,
George Clooney
voices the
troublesome family
man. He gets bored
with his day to day
life. He wants more
than he has and he
wants to taste some
of the adventure he
used to have before
he settled down. So
Mr. Fox takes on the
most powerful
farmers in the area;
Boggis, Bunce, and
Bean. He steals from
each farmer and
basically starts a
war between all of
the area animals and
the three prominent
agriculturists.
Wes
Anderson created a
stop-motion
animation movie like
you’ve never seen
before. Normally
these movies lack a
lot of emotion,
dialogue, and story
because they are
limited to what they
can do. That’s not
the case in
The
Fantastic Mr. Fox.
The puppet makers
created some amazing
models for the movie
so the animators
could get everything
they wanted out of
them. Also Anderson,
really guided his
animators to the
point that no one
has guided
stop-motion. He had
very distinct ideas
for what he wanted
and the final
product shows that
he got what he
wanted. This unique
movie rivals what
any computer
animated movie can
do now and even
rivals live action
movies in certain
aspects because the
sets, models, and
puppets were so
detailed. This is
definitely an odd
movie, but it’s odd
in the Roald Dahl
way. It has a
surplus of heart and
character.
The Blu-Ray
packaging of the
release is stellar.
You get some cut
scenes and that type
of thing but you
mostly get a lot of
featurettes on how
Anderson, the puppet
makers, the
producers, and the
animators came
together to make the
movie. There is a
ton of content that
can be watched more
than once and there
are some fascinating
interviews and
pieces. The extras
are terrific and
when you get a Blu-Ray,
a DVD, and a digital
copy of the movie
you get more than
enough for your
dollar with the
release.
There
has never been a
movie quite like
The
Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Between the talent
involved in making
it behind the scenes
and the voice acting
that pushed it over
the top they’ve
created a viewing
experience that you
and your family will
enjoy over and over.
