Duke
Nukem is back baby!
Duke stars in
Duke
Nukem Forever
and it’s been awhile
since we’ve seen
Duke star in a game
but he’s back in
2011 with all of his
shock ‘n’ awe and
blood ‘n’ guts.
Unfortunately for
Duke though the
welcome part of
being welcomed back
is short lived due
to some frustrating
elements of gameplay
in
Duke
Nukem Forever
What can’t be
overlooked is how
hard Gearbox Games
tried to make this
in to a quality
title. They
incorporated tons of
very original ideas
into this game to
make it fun to play.
They incorporated a
shrinking system,
tons of
sprites/interactive
elements, and even
some great humor
moments into a game
and made it fun.
That can’t be
overlooked; this
game is fun because
they tried really
hard to make it fun.
Unfortunately, there
are other elements
that keep it from
being an enjoyable
affair.
There are too many
load times and the
load times take too
long. Graphically it
looks terrible in
places and the frame
rate slows down way
too much in other
places. Using the
shrink ray and
getting shrunk and
things like that-
you’re small for way
too long. The pacing
of this game is
terrible and it just
doesn’t work.
They
needed to make the
campaign more
similar to
old-school
Duke
Nukem
and really just the
popular first person
shooters where the
most important thing
is to kick ass and
take names later.
Instead we get to
run around from
giant beasts in an
RC car because we’re
four inches tall and
have three clips of
ammo. Oh! But we do
get to shoot the rat
that’s the same size
as us during this
process. Do you see
what I’m getting at?
The pacing of this
game is terrible.
Duke
Nukem Forever
could have been
great, it was
delayed enough times
for that to be the
case but it just
doesn’t work.
Graphically it
struggles and the
pacing of the
gameplay is
terrible. Developers
and publishers need
to pay attention to
first person
shooters that are
popular. They’re
popular for a
reason, they look
good sure- but you
get to shoot things
and you don’t
struggle with
puzzling and enemies
aren’t too far
apart. Multiplayer
with Duke is great,
just like it always
has been but the
single player isn’t
the best.
