Dragonball:
Evolution isn't a disappointment for
everybody, but it's sure to be a
disappointment for the hardcore fans
of the cartoon series. For everybody
else out there, who has nothing to
do with the cartoon series,
Dragonball: Evolution turns out to
be a fun and care-free movie that
kids in the 7-11 year-old age range
will love.
This is a movie
for kids. The acting in it is too
bad for it not to be. Outside of
Chow Yun-Fat, Justin Chatwin, and
Jamie Chung the acting is too
campy... even when it's supposed to
be. The thing of it is, Dragonball
is a quirky cartoon that's full of
action. The movie was full of action
but the quirkiness was kept down.
There were only a few jokes
throughout the film and the rest
came off as really bad acting.
What's cool about
this movie is that it's not some
gory mindless thing. To a degree
it's made for kids to get into.
There's no blood, there's not really
any death, and there's probably only
one minimal sexual reference. You
can let your kids watch this one
without feeling too bad about it.
There's lots of
stuff that could have been better
with this but to be honest it lots
of ways it's better than it should
have been. Chow Yun Fat did a decent
job as Master Roshi and Chatwin was
entertaining as Goku. This is a fun
movie but it's not something that
you'll watch over and over unless
you happen to be nine.
