After
debuting two years
ago on ABC as a
Christmas special,
Disney’s Prep and
Landing
has made it’s way to
home video as a DVD
release. And while
part of the release
has to do with a
ramp up of promotion
for the new
Prep
and Landing: Naughty
or Nice
special that airs
December 5th,
the original
Disney’s Prep and
Landing
is a wonderful
Christmas feature
that’s something
that my young family
has grown up with
over the past couple
of years.
Before Santa Clause
drops down the
chimney and puts the
presents under the
tree somebody has to
make sure each house
is ready for the big
guy. That’s why
there’s an elite
unit of elves known
as Prep and Landing.
They go in before
Santa does and make
sure the tree’s
perfect, the milk is
the perfect
temperature, and
there are no kids
awake and out of
bed. Wayne is a
veteran on the team.
He’s been doing it
for years and years
and he’s expecting
to move up the elf
corporate ladder.
He’s expecting a big
promotion this
Christmas and he’s
ready to move away
from his old gig.
When he doesn’t get
the promotion, and
has to do prep and
landing for the big
day he’s not into
it. That’s where his
new partner Lanny
comes in. Lanny is
fresh out of
training and is
extra exuberant
about his new job.
His enthusiasm makes
up for Wayne’s lack
thereof. When the
two go to their
first house a
disaster ensues and
Wayne has to help
Lanny clean up the
mess and Lanny has
to help Wayne
discover the
Christmas magic.
Prep
and Landing
is a wonderfully
written story with a
great plotline and
some terrific
animation. The
dialogue is clever
and the corporate
crisis environment
of the elves and
Santa translates
into some funny
work-related humor
that adults will
love. The kids will
like the movie
because there’s
plenty of slapstick
humor on top of that
work-related humor.
The humor is mostly
due to the writing
but you can’t
discredit some great
voice work done by
Sarah Chalke, Dave
Foley, and Derek
Richardson
delivering several
funny moments with
their voice work.
The extras on this
DVD are plentiful,
there are basically
five animated shorts
including North Pole
News, North Pole
Commercials, an elf
training feature,
and two very funny
animation features
shot in the style of
the main feature one
called Operation
Secret Santa that
could have been the
premise of a
different main
feature all together
and another called
Tiny’s Big Adventure
that has some great
humor in it too even
if it doesn’t last
very long even for
animated short
standards.
Prep
and Landing
is a great addition
to any family’s home
video collection
either in digital
format or with this
DVD. The feature is
fun for the whole
family and this
release has even
more perks due to
the addiction of all
of the bonus
features.
Prep
and Landing
is
fun for the whole
family and hopefully
your family will
enjoy it as much as
mine does.
