Crackdown 2
is basically the
same game as
Crackdown.
It’s got the same
limitations and it
does the same things
well. You even get
to explore the same
city. The game is
undeniably fun, but
it has too many
flaws in the
graphics department,
ultimately making it
hard to judge. It’s
fun, but it looks
terrible.
In
Crackdown 2,
it’s the same setup.
You’re a genetically
enhanced agent in…
The Agency. The
Agency is the
governing
organization over
the messed up city
that is Pacific
City. You’re
battling the
terrorist
organizations known
as Cell as well as a
bunch of mutated
cannibals known as
the freaks through
different
neighborhoods to
take the city back
and return peace to
its citizens.
This
game is like games
like
Grand
Theft Auto
and
Red
Dead Redemption,
it’s
an open world game
but without as many
options and with
less organization.
Your job is to run
around Pacific City
and accomplish a
variety of goals-
all of them set up
with only voice
narration. When you
accomplish the
goals- you unlock
new ones- it’s
pretty basic. The
other part of the
game and a part of
the game that’s
pretty much
mandatory to do is
collecting orbs that
improve your skill
set. You’ll need to
improve your skill
set so you can
accomplish your
normal tasks. You
collect a variety of
orbs by hopping on
roof tops and
driving around in
your car, it’s
incredibly tedious
chasing after these
orbs, but it’s not
terribly mundane.
The
graphics in
Crackdown 2
are unforgivable
really. The textures
are basic, the
framerate tips, the
camera doesn’t
follow very well,
the edges aren’t
distinctive for what
you can climb on and
what you can’t, the
list goes on and on.
Basically this feels
like a standard Xbox
game, except it’s
been made for Xbox
360. Really that’s a
shame- because it
needed to be better
and it could have
been better. Looking
at the comparison of
graphics from
Red
Dead Redemption-
a similar title with
more challenging
textures- compared
to this- it’s
ridiculous. There is
more than enough
room for improvement
and it’s
disappointing to see
this game looking
the way it does.
Crackdown 2
isn’t exactly the
same as
Crackdown,
but it definitely
feels like it. You
explore the same
city… exactly the
same city. There are
no updates to it,
it’s laid out
exactly the same.
Crackdown 2
is a bit of a
disappointment, but
oddly enough it’s
still fun. Despite
all of its
shortcomings, the
ability to explore
this city with this
super-powered agent
is still a fun and
challenging romp.
