Kevin
Smith's latest movie
Cop
Out,
starring Tracy
Morgan and Bruce
Willis comes to
Blu-Ray.
Unsurprisingly, it
delivers large
amounts of laughs
with the normal
feature.
Surprisingly, it
delivers just as
many laughs with the
main bonus feature.
Overall, it's more
than worth checking
out.
In
the spirit of buddy
cop movies, Kevin
Smith goes the route
of an unlikely, but
developed
partnership between
Paul Hodges (Tracy
Morgan) and Jimmy
Monroe (Bruce
Willis.) Instead of
doing a back story
on how the two came
to be partners, it
throws you into the
thick of things with
the two already
being well into
their friendship and
partnership.
Paul
is the eccentric cop
who wears his heart
on his sleeve. He
doesn't hold
anything back, and
he's very
expressive. His main
hang up in life is
that he's overly
suspicious that his
wife is cheating on
him.
Jimmy
is the bruising,
old-school cop who
holds everything in
and really, does all
of the dirty work.
When they’re not
together, neither of
them are amazing
cops, but together
they make a great
team.
When Jimmy’s
daughter is getting
married, she decides
that she wants a big
wedding… A $48,000
wedding. A divorced
cop doesn't exactly
have that kind of
change lying around,
so he's got to cash
in his retirement
plan… an $80,000
baseball card. When
things go south at a
card shop and Jimmy
loses the card, he
goes on a frantic
search to find who
stole it so he can
come up with the
money for his
daughter's wedding.
Paul is of course
along for the ride
and many of the
laughs.
This is a good
movie; it has Kevin
Smith stamps all
over it. The
casting, the titles,
the music-
everything screams
Kevin Smith movie
except for some of
the shots and the
higher-quality of
the cameras. The
Cullen brothers
wrote the movie too,
and they did a solid
job of that. There
are some hilarious
jokes throughout the
movie, and overall…
it's just pretty
hilarious. There are
some problems; they
involve the pacing
in the middle of the
movie and a few
scenes here and
there that just
didn't need to be in
the movie. The
casting is a little
weird too. The main
villain- Poh Boy-
not a good villain.
Really he wasn't in
the least little bit
intimidating.
The feature on this
Blu-Ray is great,
but this disc is
worth a purchase
because of Maximum
Comedy Mode, which
is Kevin Smith's
take on Warner's
Maximum Movie Mode.
He does a hilarious
commentary with
great alternate
scenes. He’s even
got some weird
insight from Sean
William-Scott
throughout. Maximum
Comedy Mode is the
only special feature
of note, but it's a
solid feature that
you can watch just
as much as the
normal
feature.
Cop
Out
on Blu-Ray isn't
just a must for
Kevin Smth fans,
it's a must for fans
of buddy cop movies.
I doubt that there
will be a follow up
to this, but it
would have been cool
to see. With some
great original
material and some
great laughs,
Cop
Out
is a Blu-Ray
you'll want to check
out.
