THQ
and Disney teamed up
on the past several
Cars
games. The first one
was fine, but after
that they ran out of
ideas to keep it
original and
eventually they kept
just making the same
game over and over
again. Now in 2011,
Disney isn’t just
developing games,
they’re publishing
them too and to go
along with the big
release of
Cars
2
in theatres this
summer they made a
video game to
accompany it.
Cars
2
improves on all of
the Cars games
previously made and
expands on the
basic- ‘let’s race!’
approach to the past
few games. There are
tons of different
racing modes here to
play through
including some great
hunting, survival,
and battle modes. As
far as the racing
goes in
Cars
2,
there are plenty of
modes to keep you
entertained for
awhile. The controls
are surprisingly
effective for this
title too; Drifting,
drafting, attack,
and steering are all
really effective to
pick up. Plus there
are no camera
problems in battle
modes and for the
most part level
design is great.
There are a few
details lacking here
and there but really
the levels were done
well.
Cars
2
is a pretty simple
game, and that’s its
one big flaw. At its
core it’s a cart
racing game dressed
up as something
else. And at this
point, a cart racing
game is still just a
cart racing game.
It’s hard to dress
up something that’s
been done too much
over the past two
years.
As
far as a cart racing
game goes though,
Cars
2
isn’t bad. Good
controls, good
graphics, no camera
problems, and fun
game modes mean that
it’ll be a fun game
for younger players
and their parents to
pop in and enjoy.
It’s not anything
over the top
pleasing, but it’s
not a bad game.
