Jim Breur's new
comedy special Let's Clear the
Air... doesn't really clear the air
at all. Basically it's just comedy.
It's funny comedy but it's still
just comedy. In the special Breuer
tells a few stories from his past;
his days on SNL and during the
making of Half Baked. He also tells
stories about his life now. His
family and his elderly parents.
The stuff at
the beginning of his set was the SNL
and Half Baked stuff and this is
where the laughs were kind of rough
for the special.
I don't
think Jim's a pompous person and the
jokes weren't meant to be but when
you talk about the success you had
on a comedy special and tell some
stories with that success.... they
had better be funny. These stories
were funny... they just weren't that
funny.
The real laughs
come when Breuer is talking about
his family. The first half hour of
this special is just okay but the
second half hour of the special is
tremendous. He gives a good glimpse
of his personal life by telling
stories of his father and his
daughters, that are very real stories
and extremely funny at that. The second
half of the special trumps the first
half in laughs.
As for the extras
on the DVD- there's a couple of
things but really nothing special.
The menu art behind everything is
pretty hilarious and you have to
wonder how long Breuer spent filming
it because there are a ton off
different jokes on the menu. The
menu is almost as entertaining as
the special and that really says
something about the overall
presentation of this.
Lets Clear the Air
is a good special from a very gifted
comedian. The first half of it....
nothing remarkable but still pretty
funny. The second half is hysterical
and a pleasure to watch. If you
missed this on Comedy central go get
the DVD and watch it because there
are plenty of jokes to keep you
laughing.
