Part
of what made
Boondock Saints
good was its humor.
Sure there were some
jokes and some
laughs in it but it
wasn’t a comedy. It
was a fairly serious
movie with the humor
just accenting the
brothers’ goals. It
was part of who they
were; it wasn’t what
they were about.
Boondock Saints II:
All Saints Day
is a good movie but
it attempts to be
too funny. The
Duffy’s attempt to
create jokes where
there didn’t need to
be. They pushed the
humor too much
instead of pushing
the vigilante angle.
The movie does have
some funny moments
but you’re not
entirely sure why
people are helping
the saints kill guys
in the end of the
movie. You’re not
sure what they have
vested in the two
brothers whereas the
first movie you were
positive why they
were helping.
All
Saints Day
has a similar
premise as the first
movie. Terrible
things go down and
the Saints go out
for justice. This
time a priest is
killed in cold blood
for no other reason
than to send a
message to the
Saints. They got the
message and they
intend to answer the
message with one of
their own. They go
through the mob
again killing
several evil men
until getting to
their pinnacle
target. The kink in
the chain this time
is Special Agent
Eunice Bloom. The
FBI sent her in to
figure out who was
behind the Priest’s
murder and then
later to investigate
some of the
brothers’ handy
work. The brothers
go through the mob
with Bloom right on
their tale and just
like the original
movie there are some
surprises along the
way.
All
Saints Day
attempts to be too
funny but it still
ends up being a
great movie. The
brothers are still
great characters and
its fun following
them through their
journey for justice
and to clear their
names and their
legacy so to speak.
A sequel is set up
perfectly at the end
of the movie too and
hopefully the third
movie will be better
than the first two.
