Bionic Commando
Rearmed 2
isn’t nearly as good
to the first re-up
in this franchise
that Capcom released
a couple of years
ago. This time
around the game
feels like a bad
Super Nintendo
sequel. Across the
board this game
isn’t as good as the
first
Rearmed
from
gameplay to graphics
to sound. It’s a
disappointment that
this game isn’t
better, but I will
say that I had fun
with the title and I
will say that more
people will have fun
with this game than
won’t.
There’s no real
story to
Bionic Commando
Rearmed 2.
You go to a warzone
and you’re supposed
to shoot some dudes.
That the general
idea of it. You
can’t really tell
who’s behind the war
and why you’re
fighting them.
There’s posters of a
dude that looks like
Castro on some
walls, but that’s
the biggest clue
they provide about
what’s going on.
There’s some
text/dialogue, some
even that attempts
to be witty, but
there’s no reason
not to skip through
it because you don’t
know what’s going on
anyway.
This
game has very little
to do with a story
and that’s
disappointing, but
more disappointing
than that is the
gameplay itself. In
Bionic Commando,
you couldn’t jump.
Even in
Bionic Commando
Rearmed
you couldn’t jump.
In this game, you
can jump like crazy.
Really, your little
dude is a crazy
jumping maniac and
you can jump
everywhere. That
takes away an
interesting
climbing/swinging
dynamic that the old
games had and that’s
the first part of
disappointment. The
other disappointment
with gameplay is
just the controls
themselves. You
can’t swing in a
variety of
directions; you’re
limited to what you
can do and that’s a
huge flaw too.
As far as graphics
go, this doesn’t
look any better than
a Super Nintendo
title from the 90’s.
The enemies are all
designed the same
and even the bosses
just get slightly
tweaked from level
to level. There are
those Castro posters
on the wall and some
various add-ons in
the level design but
really a lot of time
wasn’t taken in
texturing and
graphics and you can
really tell that.
The sound of the
game is its best
quality. Even though
it’s not as good as
the last game was in
this series, it
still has a nice,
rich, old-school
sound to it that
most gaming fans
will like.
Bionic Commando
Rearmed 2
is a disappointment.
It’s not the game
that the previous
Commando
is and it would have
been better for them
just to throw out
the same game that
they released last
time with some
changes in level
design. Still, I’d
be lying if I said I
didn’t have fun with
this title and I
didn’t enjoy playing
it. It’s just an
XBLA title, but
Bionic Commando
Rearmed 2
could have been a
lot more fun than it
was.
