When
watching through
Beverly Hills
Chihuahua,
you knew there was
going to be a
sequel. Kids love
talking dogs. Don’t
ask me what the draw
is, I don’t get it,
but kids love
talking dogs. Unless
you’re the ultimate
dog-lover, bordering
on obsession, then
you’re not going to
like this entire
movie. But your
kids… Your kids will
love this movie.
Beverly Hills
Chihuahua 2
begins with one of
the most ridiculous
things ever seen in
a movie. Even
straight to video. I
can’t decide if it’s
ridiculous in a good
way or a bad way,
but it starts out
with a dog wedding.
Papi and Chloe are
getting married.
They get married and
then have a litter
of baby Chihuahuas.
So there are six
dogs to follow this
time through instead
of just two. When
Chloe’s owner Aunt
Viv takes a trip to
the rain forest, she
leaves Chloe and the
puppies with Sam and
Papi to stay at his
family’s house.
While this is going
on, Sam and the dogs
discover that his
parents are going to
lose their home
because they’re
behind on payments.
So it’s up to the
dogs to save the day
and win the grand
prize and $50,000 in
the Beverly Hills
Dog Show so they can
save the day.
The plot is
ridiculous, it is
what it is. You’re
not going to be
sucked into the
story and wowed by
what’s going on with
this movie, but your
kids will be,
especially if
they’re in the 9 and
under age-range. The
story isn’t great,
but there are lots
of cute moments with
the dogs doing
stunts and/or doing
something adorable
and that’s what the
kids will be into…
The dogs and their
personalities as
well as the funny
dialogue delivered
by George Lopez and
the rest of the
voice cast. The
other positive for
the movie itself is
the acting by Disney
Channel veterans
Brian Stepanek and
Phill Lewis. The two
were exceptionally
good in their roll
parts. Rounding out
the cast as Sam is
Marcus Coloma, who
is a very good actor
and should be doing
some bigger things
in years to come.
To go along with a
family film that
your kids will enjoy
there are a couple
of cool features to
check out in
addition to the main
feature. There’s a
short blooper real
that’s pretty funny,
there’s also a music
video featuring
Bridit Mendler and a
trivia game that
your kids might find
fun.
Really this type of
a movie is a
no-brainer to pick
up if you have kids
under 9. You’re
probably not going
to enjoy watching
it, but that doesn’t
mean you won’t find
a funny moment here
and there. The kids
will enjoy this one
and that’s what
counts.
