As far as comparison pieces go your
strength on resemblance to
Bedknobs
and Broomsticks comes in the form of
Pete’s Dragon. Not in content or
because they have similar storylines
but because they have similar
reputations. They are both treasured
by many and underappreciated by many
too. With
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
that couldn’t be more true.
Angela Lansbury of Murder She Wrote
fame and who looked like and acted
like a Grandma even then ,stars in
this movie about a witch who
gets put in charge of three orphans
during the World War II era. She
takes them on a magical adventure
with cartoons, knights, under the
sea creatures, loads of other stuff.
What’s interesting about this DVD is
the additional footage put into it.
Turns out the original release was
trimmed by 25 minutes so it could be
ran at Radio City Music Hall during
the holidays. For this release that
25 minutes has been cut back into
the movie and it makes the story
make more sense and just flow
better.
This release of Bedknobs and
Broomsticks was a long time coming.
An underrated film by Disney
that just got released the way it
should have been released almost
forty years from it’s inception is
something I just can’t wrap my head
around. Especially when it’s
somewhat of a Disney classic.
