Beauty and the
Beast: Belle’s
Magical World
was originally
released in 1996 and
was produced by Walt
Disney Television
Animation. Walt
Disney Television
Animation also
produced
Beauty and the
Beast: The Enchanted
Christmas
but
what a difference a
good budget and a
few years make with
that production.
While the Blu-ray
and DVD editions of
Beauty and the
Beast: The Enchanted
Christmas
are both sharp and
look great,
Belle’s Enchanted
World
looks like it was on
television in the
late 80’s. The
drawings are all
fine but there’s a
lack of color and
polish to the
picture. That lack
of polish can also
be seen in every
facet of this
release. Voice work
isn’t done by most
of the original
voices and the
stories aren’t that
great. The overall
product isn’t
without its value-
it just doesn’t have
as much value as the
more recent
Beauty and the Beast
Blu-ray
releases.
Beauty and the
Beast: Belle’s
Magical World
tells four different
stories about the
enchanted items in
the castle, Belle,
and the Beast. These
four stories differ
in themes- one
revolves around
Beast not wanting
Belle to be the
caretaker of an
injured bird.
Another involves the
items and Belle
trying to throw a
surprise party for
Mrs. Potts. Another
involves Lumier the
candlestick trying
to plan a special
date between him and
Babette the feather
duster.
Beauty and the
Beast: Belle’s
Magical World
is decent for what
it is. For little
girls out there who
fell in love with
the original movie
on Blu-Ray, parents
will want to pick
this up for them and
let them enjoy the
magic of the castle
and the creatures’
living within it.
It’s not a DVD that
families will want
to watch more than
once, but for little
girls who’re in to
the Disney Princess
universe and
Belle and Beauty and
the Beast…
they’ll love this
and watch it over
and over.
As noted before, the
animation here isn’t
very strong. It
makes me think that
this was originally
planned to be a part
of a TV show and not
a DVD release.
There’s no polish to
it and no memorable
lasting appeal to it
either. The same can
be said for the
voice work on this
release. It has some
of the original
characters with
their voices but
several are without
that voice and with
releases like this….
It’s rough.
Beauty and the
Beast: Belle’s
Magical World
isn’t as good as Enchanted
Christmas.
It’s great for who
it’s intended for,
young girls aged 3
to 8, but everybody
outside of that
probably isn’t going
to be able to watch
it frequently.
