Bayonetta is an
action game in the truest sense.
It’s a lot like Devil May Cry in
controls, mechanics, story, and mass
amounts of combos. It’s got a one of
a kind storyline revolving around
light and dark. The setup is that
there were two clans that ruled
Europe long ago. The Dark Umbra
Witches, and the Lumen Sages. The
Umbra aren’t evil and neither are
the Lumen. In truth, they’re just at
war. They used to live in peace and
respected each other, they balanced
each other out. That is until
something happened that the two
sides got angry at each other about
and they went to war with the Lumen
eventually winning and only one
Umbra Witch remaining… Bayonetta. As
Bayonetta you have to fight horde
after horde of demonic angels trying
to kill you and eliminate the last
of the Umbra.
The controls in
Bayonetta are its best trait. There
are an incredible amount of combos
to pull off and even a few ‘torture’
moves that are downright badass as
well. The mechanics are some of the
most smooth you’ll ever pick up and
play too.
Bayonetta looks and feels smooth.
Combos are easy to pull off and the
game itself runs smooth and fluent
just like Devil May Cry.
The only real problem with Bayonetta
is that it’s too similar to the
latest Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry
4. Both are great games. Devil May
Cry is slightly better. Bayonetta
only loses points because it looks
and feels pretty similar. Another
knock on this title has to be given
to the music though. The action
sequences where the music picks up…
the action is good… the music is
terrible and it plays over and over.
With a great original story that’s
set up well along with some solid
visuals and some of the smoothest
and best controls you’re likely to
see Bayonetta is an instant ‘pick
this up’ title.
