Adventureland
is the tale of Jesse Eisenberg A guy
that went to college and got his
degree like a lot of people get
their degrees.. something generally
worthless. After his father gets
transferred and his parents can’t
afford graduate school at Columbia,
Jessie has to get himself a job. He
does. At the worst place imaginable.
Adventureland, a theme park where
the rides and the food could kill
you… or at least make you sick.
There Jesse meets Em (Kristin
Stewart from Twilight) and the two
develop a relationship. He also
meets several different characters
including Mike Connell played by
Ryan Reynolds, Joel by Martin
Stewart, and two theme park owners
Paulette and Bobby played by Kristin
Wiig and Bill Hader. The movie goes
through Jessie’s fateful summer
where he goes through all that
working at Adventureland has to
offer and thus growing up in the
process.
This isn’t a
bad flick at all. Jessie was played
by James Brennan and he did a good
job. Kind of a believably vulnerable
character. Kristen Stewart also did
a great job as Em and where she
wasn’t very good in Twilight- she’s
great here. She’s either just gotten
better or this is a better role for
her. The rest of the cast is also
good- Ryan Reynolds, Martin Stewart,
and Kristin Wiig are all good in
smaller roles.
Director Greg
Mottola did some great work with
this movie- that’s what I loved the
most about it. How he captured the
theme park during the day and during
the night. He never let it look too
good- like it was magical, but he
never made it look too dirty either.
Plus some of the shots in this movie
are really good- there’s one where
Jessie is hanging out with a
coworker talking on some old tea
cups on a hill overlooking the theme
park- awesome shot.
The Blu-Ray
copy of this movie is where it’s at.
I said that Mottola did a good job
with this movie by not making it
look too dirty. On DVD it almost
does look too dirty. On Blu-Ray it
looks and sounds awesome. Plus
there’s some exclusive bonus content
that’s featured on the Blu-Ray
including some Adventureland
commercials and training video. Good
stuff. You also get a digital file
copy with the Blu-Ray disc, and that
can’t be beat.
