Scooby Doo: Abracadabra-Doo

Tom and Jerry's Greatest Chases, Vol. 4

Black Dynamite

In the latest animated Scooby-Doo movie, Scooby Doo: Abracadabra-Doo, Scooby and the gang get sent off to magic school to help Velma’s little sister Madelyn. The magic school, Whirlin Merlin Magic Academy at Flannery Castle has undergone some scares from a Gryphon. It’s caused most of the students and faculty to leave the school and Whrilin is close to losing his castle, his school, and his business. Who’s behind the whole thing? Well that’s up to Scooby, Shaggy, Velma, Fred, and Daphne to figure out.

The coolest thing about these original animated movies is simple. It’s all the ‘guest’ voices. This time the biggest guest voice is the very funny Jeffrey Tambor. Also cool with Scooby is the man himself… Frank Welker. If you ever look at his credits, it’s outstanding to see how many things he and his voice are in. As usual, he’s great as Fred and Scooby. Kudos also goes to Matthew Lillard. He played Shaggy in the live-action Scooby movies and he’s the voice of Shaggy in this animated movie. He’s better as Shaggy than Casey Kasem is at this point. Kasem is great in all of the older cartoons and Lillard will never top what Kasem has done as Shaggy. But Kasem is growing older and you can tell with his voice. It’s sad, but Lillard is more apt to do Shaggy than Kasem is at this point.

The only slight to these movies are the extras. There usually aren’t any. It wouldn’t hurt to include a bonus episode of Scooby on the disc. The general rule with discs like this is the more content you get the better it is. This time you get something though, Scooby Doo and Puppets. The DVD teaches you how to make a few puppets- it will be a fun activity for the kids to try and make.

This animated movie is great just like the other original Scooby Doo animated movies that have been distributed since Scooby came back with the live action movies. Scooby Doo: Abracadabra-Doo is something that you and your family will want to check out and watch and watch over again.
