With
Tron:
Evolution
you would expect
Disney to go above
and beyond and make
a badass video game
that ties in with
the movie. They only
get that partially
done with this one.
Sure, it’s fun, but
it’s also extremely
repetitive and
glitchy in spots. If
you come home from
the movie and you
need more
Tron
though, this isn’t a
bad spot to start.
Tron:
Evolution
follows you as the
System Monitor. It’s
a very loose tie-in
with the movie.
There are some of
the same plot
points, but you’re a
nameless system
monitor in charge of
protecting the
Basics and the Isos
from any harm that
could come their
way. Then the bits
hit the fan, a virus
is unleashed, Clu
gets all evil, Flynn
goes missing, the
Isos start to get
killed off, and it’s
your turn to save
the day.
Like
games like
Assassin’s Creed
and
Prince of Persia,
Tron:
Evolution
has a heavy reliance
on climbing your way
through levels from
action point to
action point. The
distinct difference
though is that
Tron’s climbing
system drives too
loose with too much
room for error and
you do it too much
in the game. Every
level is the same,
there are no unique
goals to be had- you
climb, you fight,
you climb, you
fight. Toss in some
‘you die’ heavily
into there and
that’s the basis of
Tron:
Evolution.
There are some cool
levels thrown in
throughout the game.
Some where you’re
driving the cool
motorcycles from the
movie, others where
you’re in a tank.
These levels are a
nice break from the
normal monotonous
climbing/disc
throwing…. But
they’re too short.
You can play through
any of these levels
in a matter of
minutes because of
frequent check
points etc. The
vehicle levels are
cool, but they’re
not over the top
amazing.
The
story mode is nice
in
Tron:
Evolution.
You’ll want to play
through to see what
happens. Sure you’ll
get discouraged at
times from careening
over cliff after
cliff, but it’s
still a short enough
and an easy enough
game that you will
get through it
probably too fast.
The story mode is
great and the
multi-player mode
for the game isn’t
terrible. There’s
actually some nice
potential here. I
played in a few
lobbies and had tons
of fun… it did get a
little repetitive
after the third and
fourth time playing,
but it’ll be a game
where you can come
back to play in the
game arena from time
to time.
Tron:
Evolution
is a good game. It’s
far from a great
game but it’s still
a good one. You’ll
play through the
story once and then
never come back to
it again, but you’ll
revisit the
multi-player from
time to time. Not
something I’d run to
get immediately, but
not a bad thing to
check out.
