Nintendo made a
splash last year
when they announced
that they were
bringing 3D gaming
to the portable
gaming world with
the Nintendo 3DS.
They full-blown
cannon-balled into
the deep end and
made a gigantic
splash, when they
announced that they
were pulling this
off without glasses.
The Nintendo 3DS
arrived to retailers
this spring and 3D
portable gaming is
officially here.
The first reaction
that people get when
they pick up a DS
and crank up the 3D
for the first time
is usually ‘whoa.’
It’s hard to believe
that Nintendo
crammed 3D gaming
technology into a
normal sized
Nintendo DS without
making you wear
goofy glasses.
The way you operate
the 3D is easy. You
can tell how it
works right away
when you turn the
3DS on and it goes
to the menu system.
You turn on the
system and then on
the right side of
the top screen
there’s a 3D slider
that lets you adjust
the 3D to your
eyesight. Different
lighting situations
and how you’re
holding the device
affects this. You
slide the 3D up and
down until you find
the 3D that’s
perfect for you then
you game on!
The 3D is both a big
positive and a minor
negative. The big
positive is how cool
it is and how great
the screen looks;
especially with 3D
gaming. But the
minor negative is
that you can’t 3D
game for extended
periods of time.
It’s also hard to do
when you’re in a
moving vehicle or
something like that.
Basically you have
to be selective with
how you’re using the
3D. Parents need to
be weary for how
long their kids are
using the 3D too. It
needs to be
monitored to make
sure that developing
eyes are strained.
It’s noted on the
box that this is for
users 7 and up for a
reason. Just like
everything else,
parents need to pay
attention what kids
are playing and for
how long their
playing and how long
they’re using 3D.
3D
gaming with the
Nintendo 3DS is
pretty incredible.
I’ve played
Pilotwings
with the game and it
was an amazing
experience. It was
like looking inside
of a 3-D box with
airplanes, jet
packs, hang gliders,
crazy hoops, loops,
spikes, and landing
pads. I can honestly
say that with the 3D
turned on here, I’ve
never had another
gaming experience
like it. And with
the 3D turned down
and off then it’s a
great DS with a
great screen and
Pilotwings
is a great title.
The Nintendo 3DS
in-game experience
is awesome and even
the menus look cool
in 3D but another
cool feature with
the device is that
it has not one, not
two, but three
cameras. The camera
on the front of the
device is a
crystal-clear lens
that can be used to
take 2D pictures of
the user facing the
device. The two
cameras on the back
though are where
it’s at. Those two
cameras are used to
take 3D pictures by
creating two
different images and
then layering them
with a process I
can’t even begin to
understand. You can
then goof around and
draw on those
pictures too.
Basically, the
Nintendo 3DS plays
3D games, but it
also takes 3D
pictures. How cool
is that?
The Nintendo 3DS,
Nintendo’s latest
portable gaming
system is
revolutionary. They
brought 3D gaming
and 3D technology to
the world… without
glasses. They’ve
also created a
gaming experience
that’s unlike any
gaming experience
out there, not that
the company has
never done that
before… Just like
all of their other
systems, the
Nintendo 3DS has
brought something
entirely new and
cool to the market.
