Christopher Nolan
has put out some
great films over the
past decade. He’s
done some masterful
work with none being
more masterful than
The
Dark Knight.
That film will
remain everyone’s
favorite but
Inception
is his best work to
date and to say that
it will be a
challenge for the
director to top…
wouldn’t just be an
understatement… it’s
something hard to
even fathom.
If
you’ve seen any of
the marketing with
Inception
from its Blu-ray
commercials to its
theatrical marketing
then you know it’s
about dreams. Cobb
(Leonardo DiCaprio)
and his team can
infiltrate people’s
dreams to get useful
information. They’re
good at it and are
sought out to do it.
A business man comes
to Cobb with what’s
perceived as
impossible by most
in the field - the
business man wants
Cobb and his team to
put an idea in the
head of a rival
businessman’s heir.
The team goes
through a multitude
of set ups inside
and outside of the
dream to achieve the
impossible. It’s
something that’s
never been done
before and you’ve
never seen a movie
like it before.
The film’s strength
is what any movie
starring Leonardo
DiCaprio and
directed by
Christopher Nolan
would be. Lead actor
and director.
Nolan’s work on this
film is inspiring.
From getting the
most out of normal
special effects and
digital effects to
just getting the
most out of his
cast, Nolan is at
the top of his game
with this film.
Likewise DiCaprio is
fantastic as Cobb,
you can never read
the character even
when he’s under
extreme duress and
DiCaprio’s portrayal
of a suffering man
with inner conflict
essentially become
outer conflict is
outstanding.
Likewise the rest of
the cast is filled
out amazingly by
Joseph
Gordon-Levitt, who
is a tremendous
actor. Ellen Page is
remarkable as well.
Filling out the cast
Tom Hardy, Ken
Watanabe, and Cilian
Murphy all do great
jobs with their
roles.
The
Blu-ray of
Inception
has a ton of
features to it with
bonus features on
the main-feature
disc as well as on a
separate disc.
There’s a great
In-Movie feature
called
Extraction Mode
that has bits with
Nolan and the cast
talking about making
the movie. Then they
have a 5.1 audio mix
of Hans Zimmer’s
score for the film
to just play on your
home theatre system.
This particular
score by Zimmer has
some of the most
brilliant music that
the composer has
written. Then
there’s a motion
comic, some BD-Live
features, a look at
the theatrical
posters and
teasers/trailers.
It’s a serviceable
Blu-ray, but a
classic movie like
this will get
new/updated releases
over the years. That
can pretty much be
guaranteed.
Inception
really is the apex
of Nolan’s work. The
perfect cast, the
outstanding use of
everything he had at
his disposal and
just his work behind
the lens is
tremendous. That
doesn’t even touch
on how amazing and
incredible the story
behind this movie
is.
Inception
is easily the best
movie of 2010 and a
must-watch on Blu-ray
due to the bonus
features, incredible
direction, and Hans
Zimmer’s remarkable
score.
