Furry
Vengeance
isn’t a thinking
man’s movie. That’s
been evident in
trailers, marketing,
and reviews. But
it’s not a terrible
movie. It’s a fun
movie that families
with kids aged 7-11
will enjoy and
everyone outside of
that pocket will
probably hate.
The movie follows
Dan Sanders. He
works for a
Chicago-based
development company
that is trying to
develop forest land
in Oregon into a new
type of suburbia. So
he uproots his
family from Illinois
and movies to the
peaceful
surroundings of the
Oregon forest. The
thing is, the
animals in the movie
are super
intelligent and they
learn of his plan to
develop the land and
get rid of the
forest… and they’re
not at all happy
about it. Their
leader is a cunning
raccoon and he
organizes a coup
against Dan to make
his life miserable.
Dan falls down and
suffers the wrath of
the animals for 90
minutes until he
comes to his senses
and decides to do
the right thing and
save the forest.
So
this movie isn’t
exactly a ‘real’
movie. But if you’re
into nonsensical
comedy then you’ll
love this. The kids
are sure to enjoy
Fraser enduring pain
over and over for 90
minutes and even the
young at heart will
enjoy it to.
There
are quite a few
laughs to be had
throughout the movie
if you’re into some
gross and/or silly
humor and as far as
Brendan Fraser goes…
he’s never been
great… but he’s not
terrible at this.
Some of his jokes
are actually pretty
decent. Brooke
Shields opposite of
him is always great.
It’s
true that you can’t
take
Furry
Vengeance
too seriously but
there are still some
problems. The side
stories in the movie
don’t add anything
to it other than a
few extra minutes
and some of the CG
animation just looks
too fake. And as
noted before- anyone
outside of families
with kids aged 7-11
aren’t going to be
crazy about the film
and might even
despise it. The
biggest sin of all
however is a pop
cover of Cypress
Hill’s “Insane in
the Brain” at the
end of the movie…
they did a goofy
music video
alongside of it and
the end product is
something that the
kids will enjoy and
the adults will gag
over.
Furry
Vengeance
isn’t the most
brilliant thing out
there but it’s a fun
90 minute movie that
your kids will enjoy
and laugh at. It’s
not big on extras
and the movie isn’t
the most
re-watchable thing
there is but it’s a
decent add in to
your family’s movie
collection.
