Unlike
Ponyo
and
My
neighbor Totoro,
Castle in the Sky
is a animated movie
based strictly in a
world of fantasy.
It's got some
amazing characters
and some settings
that are even more
amazing. It's a
movie with a one of
a kind story that
can't be compared to
anything you're
likely to see.
The
movie follows two
young orphans. Pazu
is a young
apprentice who's
very mechanically
inclined. He's great
with machines and
other things of that
nature. When he's
heading back to work
from picking up
dinner for his boss
he discovers Sheeta,
a young girl who is
floating down from
the sky. They soon
discover that
Sheeta's necklace is
the secret to a lost
city that floats in
the sky that hasn't
been seen in years.
The city contains
treasure and mystery
and it's the target
of treasure hunters.
That includes the
evil Muska who's
trying to use the
city for evil.
Pazu
and Sheeta become
friends and go on an
adventure to find
the island in the
sky and unlock it's
secrets . They run
from the Muska and
the army, pirates
and other dangers
until finally
finding the floating
land mass and
unlocking some of
its power
Castle in the Sky
is an amazing story.
It's not as centered
around Japanese
culture as it is the
fantasy world that
it takes place in.
The characters that
Miyazakii and his
team came up with
and maintained
throughout the
course of the movie
are really special
characters.
Especially the group
of pirates. The
story is
unpredictable and
one-of-a-kind and
it's a lot of fun to
watch them grow and
interact.
Castle in the Sky
also features the
same bonus features
as the other three
special two-disc
DVDs from Disney and
Studio Ghibli. They
feature the
interactive map of
the worlds of Studio
Ghibli as well as
features pertaining
to how the studio
makes their
masterpieces
If
you're planning on
checking out these
Studio Ghibli films,
the movie that you
should probably
start with is
Castle in the Sky.
It's got the best
story out of the
four movies and it's
an original movie
that you won't see
anywhere else.
