The Short: Blood Drive is a fun game but it’s something you’ll want to wait a few months to play.

Blood Drive isn’t the most innovative game out there. The game is basically like a full length version of the zombie game show from Dead Rising 2 Mix that concept with Vigilante 8 and you’ve got the premise of the game.

In Blood Drive, you’re on a game show where there are different characters that have their own unique abilities and cars. These characters battle it out on a program where they A.) race around an area, B.) kill as many zombies as they can, and/or C.) try to destroy each other. In a nutshell that’s the principle of the game. It might be the most innovative idea that anyone has ever had but it’s effective due to the game's style and pizzazz. Even though the characters are pretty repetitive with their audio dialogue, the dialogue is pretty funny. The setup for every level/showdown is repetitive as well, but it's also humorous. When you toss in some cool graphics and a great concept with some nice presentation traits- Blood Drive ends up being a decent game.

There are a couple of things wrong with this game. The main one being the price for what it is. I’m not saying that this isn’t a great game, but it’s not worth a full retail price. Is it worth a look on a bargain shelf six months down the line? Absolutely. As a must-own the first couple of months after its release? Probably not. If it were just made into a game that was a download-only across Playstation Network or XBOX LIVE, then this would be a classic arcade game. This is a good game is what I’m saying, but the idea has been done before and there’s just not enough of a replayability factor to make it worth full price. A lot of that has to do with clipping issues, some of it has to deal with depth. The bottom line is this is a great game- only if you’re paying $35 or under for it.

Blood Drive does things right. It’s a fun game that you’ll get some playtime out of. Especially in its multi-player modes... But you’re not going to get that much use out of it. Are there worse games out there? That’s a definite. But are there better games that deserved to be played more than this one that are coming out at the same time? That’s a bigger definite. Blood Drive is a fun game but it’s something you’ll want to wait a few months to play.
