2007's game of the
year gets a sequel
with Bioshock 2. You
return to the
underwater city of
Rapture as Big
Daddy. The most
iconic figure from
the first Bioshock
and crazy tough
mutated dude in a
modified diving
suit. You're not
just any Big Daddy
though, you
developed a
connection with the
little sister that
you weren't supposed
to. Instead of
fighting against
Andrew Ryan and
everyone else in
Rapture just
independently, this
time you're fighting
against Gloria Lam.
A psychiatrist who's
managed to rally
together all of the
demented splicers in
Rapture under one
unified cause. The
little sister that
you established a
bond with turns out
to be one of the
most powerful little
sisters and Gloria
Lam's daughter.
You've been away for
ten years, but now
you're back to save
Eleanor from her
insane mother.
Bioshock 2 is more
of a production than
Bioshock was. And
that's saying
something. There are
tons of audio
journals that you
can find throughout
the game and they
all are read by
different actors and
add a ton to the
story. You're also
joined by a few
allies who
communicate with you
through your helmet.
All of the actors
and voices in
Bioshock are
incredible and
that's something you
rarely see in a
video game. Along
with the voice
acting the game
looks stunning
again. The
underwater city of
Rapture looks better
here than it did
with the first game
with more detail
being put in with
the textures and
when you're outside
going from building
to building without
a tunnel it looks
incredible. The
character models are
also well put
together and
Bioshock 2 ends up
to be one of the
best looking
shooters you're
likely to find
anywhere.
The game-play of
Bioschock 2 is where
it's at. If you had
concerns about being
Big Daddy and moving
too loud and too
slow, there's no
worries in that
sense because it's
not a problem. We
thought that it was
going to be a
problem until the
first time through
and with so much to
look at and listen
to, you forget about
it instantly and you
run just fine. Adam
is the drug that
everyone is hooked
on in Rapture. You
get to use Adam
yourself to gain a
special ability with
your left arm. Just
like the first game.
You get shots of
atom that you can
turn into eve and
you get the ability
to incinerate,
electrocute, and
freeze (among other
things) with your
left hand. Adam is
fun to use in the
game and it adds a
different dynamic to
the shooter genre
that's mostly
missing with other
games.
Bioshock 2 had a
tough task of being
better than it's
predecessor. It's a
task that is
accomplished though.
With better graphics
and an in-depth
presentation that's
unmatched compared
to every other video
game out there
Bioshock 2 is a must
for any fan of
shooters and any fan
of great video
games.
