There
are lots of things I
remember about the
2010 NBA Finals. I
remember how
physical the series
was. I remember how
the momentum swung
back and forth
between the Celtics
and Lakers until it
came down to a
pivotal game 7. I
also remember how
excited I was to
watch that game 7
and how disappointed
I was with it while
watching it. I’m a
Laker fan and a Kobe
fan and he forced
too much and really
played awful. But I
also remember how
happy I was when LA
was able to pull out
the win in that
brutal game 7.
Popping in the
Los
Angeles Lakers: 2010
NBA Finals Series
into the Blu-ray
player I was going
to watch everything
again, but there
were a few things I
was going to pay
attention to. What
got my attention
with this release is
how much I missed
and didn’t see and
hear while watching
this live.
What a lot of people
remember in the post
series press
conferences is Ron
Artest’s craziest
press conference of
all time. Ron
appeared to be
euphoric with joy
and he was cracking
jokes and saying
some crazy things-
everyone in the
conference was
laughing and
everyone watching it
live was laughing.
But when you watch
that press
conference a second
time around-
EVERYTHING Ron said
made complete sense.
He talked about
bailing on his Pacer
team (and basically
ruining that
franchise.) He
talked about winning
as a team and
playing a role in
the team concept. He
talked about his
relationship with
his therapist and
wanting to get
better at crucial
moments- first time
watching the
conference; it’s a
joke, watching it
the second time made
it one of the most
insightful press
conferences I’ve
seen. You just have
to understand what’s
said, and sometimes
you have to watch it
twice. That’s the
cool thing about
this collector’s
edition of last
year’s finals- you
can watch the key
press conferences
after the series,
you can watch the
entire games again
with the ABC
commentary of Mike
Breen, Jeff Van
Gundy and Mark
Jackson, AND you can
watch a cool
mini-movie version
of the game that has
a cool presentation
of the ups and downs
of the game and the
pregame and postgame
mindset of the
players and coaches.
The replayed
broadcast of the
games are all great.
ESPN/ABC knows what
they’re doing with
live production of
NBA games and they
do it far better
than anyone else
does. So the games
are great to watch
through again. The
press conferences
were also awesome to
watch through again.
The mini-movies
where they put the
entire game into an
8-10 minute format
to watch as cleft
notes are great too.
The only thing wrong
with this set is
that those
mini-movies aren’t
narrated, they just
have audio piped in
from different
broadcasts. That’s a
bit of a bummer and
the music they ran
with in post
production to
supervise things
with- it’s a little
off too.
This set of 5 discs
is worth picking up
if you’re a Lakers
fan or just a
die-hard NBA fan.
The menu system is
sleek and cool and
everything that you
want to watch is on
this set. The only
thing lacking is the
narration and you
can make it with
what’s there on the
mini-movie mode.
This is a must for
every Laker fan…
“One more than Shaq…
and you can take
that to the bank.”
