Juke Kartel
2010 marked the debut of the band Juke Kartel
in the US. Already hugely popular in their native home of
Australia, Juke Kartel finally got the chance to share the
infectious sound in the states. The opportunity is something
that lead singer Toby Rand told Alternative Addiction the band is
very luck to have. Listen to the full interview with

Honest
Man
The Gracious Few
In the fall of 2010 a brand new band by the
name of The Gracious Few emerged with a hit single entitled 'Honest
Man.' Comprised of Candlebox lead singer Kevin Martin and Live
guitarist Chad Taylor, bassist Patrick Dahlheimer and drummer Chad
Gracey, the band created a new spin on a classic alternative rock
sound. "Honest, unbridled, in your face, emotional" are just
some of the words that Martin used to describe the new band during
an interview earlier this year, check it out

My
Best Theory
Jimmy Eat World
2010 marked the release of Jimmy Eat World's
latest release, Invented. The album is not just another
release from the Arizona based band, it marked the band's return to
working with producer Mark Trombino, who also worked on the band's
breakthrough album, Bleed American, as well as their seminal
earlier albums, Static Prevails and Clarity. The
band's bassist Rick Burch talked about the band's landmark release
during an interview back in October, listen to it

For
The First Time
The Script
While 2009 may have been their breakout year, The Script returned in
2010 with the single 'For The First Time,' the first single from
their upcoming new album Science & Faith, which is due out in
January. According to lead singer Mark Sheehan, the album's
sound is one which "spoke to us and was personal, but wasn't too
much a departure from the first record." Listen to the full

My
Time
Minus The Bear
One of the many great new bands to emerge in
2010 was Minus The Bear, who's latest album Omni dropped in
late spring, and featured the hit single My Time. In an odd
statement that you don't hear very often, the Seattle based band's
lead singer Jake Snider said the band was actually happy that
their album was leaked online prior to its release, because it
helped drive fans to their shows who otherwise would have never
gotten into the band. Read the full statement from Snider

Say
You'll Haunt Me
Stone Sour
Stone Sour returned in 2010 with a new album titled Audio Secrecy,
which featured the hit single "Say You'll Haunt Me," one of many
diverse sounding songs on the album. According to the band's
drummer Roy Mayorga, the album's diversity is due to the fact that
all fave members of the band are writing music now, not just lead
singer Cory Taylor. We all individually wrote songs over the last
couple years and then we all got together and learned them all and
put our own stamp on them,” Mayorga said last summer. Listen to the interview

The
Sound
Switchfoot
One of the biggest releases in 2010
actually happened to be an album that was released in 2009.
Switchfoot's Hello Hurricane dropped in November of 2009, but
it wasn't until the spring of 2010 that the album exploded with
three hit singles. The biggest was "The Sound" which peaked at
#7 and helped the band gain a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album.
While recording Hello Hurricane, lead singer Joe Foreman
admitted that album had a darker feel to it due to the heavy hours
the band spent in the studio recording the album. Listen to
Foreman talk about it

Animal
Neon Trees
Few could have predicted the amazing year that
Neon Trees had in 2010. Coming into the year, the group was a
little known act from Utah with a handful of independent releases.
But after the band inked a deal with Mercury/Def Jam they began work
on their major label debut Habits. Released in March of 2010,
the albums lead off single was the track "Animal." It's
addictive chorus and unforgettable beat was a perfect choice to
introduce the band to the mainstream. While the song took time
to catch on nationwide, once it did there was no turning back.
The track would eventually score the top spot on the Billboard
Alternative Rock charts, and be the first Alternative song in nearly
two years to also break the Top 20 in the Billboard Top 100.
Despite the success of the single, lead singer Tyler Glenn says the
band doesn't set out to specifically write hit singles, just music
that people will sing along with. You can hear his comments on
the topic
here
Whatever the band's goal is, 2010 is a year that brought them much
closer to it, thanks in large part to their hit single "Animal," the
Alternative Addiction song of the year for 2010. |
