Back
To Indiana
The Elms
One of the more overlooked songs of 2009 came
from Midwestern rock band The Elms. Their single "Back To
Indiana" sounds like a late 90's post-grunge hit, and fills a void
left by so many modern rock bands today. The band explained
the reason behind their nostalgic sound when we interviewed them in
November, listen

Parachute
Easily one of the more impressive debut albums
of the year came from Virginia based band Parachute, who's single
"She Is Love" helped the band splash onto the music scene in the
spring of 2009. Surprisingly, lead singer Will Anderson says
the song was never even intended to be a single off their album,

John Hampson
Former Nine Days lead singer John Hampson
returned in 2009 with his first full length solo release, which
featured the hit "How Much." According to Hampson, the album

December
Juke Kartel
Thanks in large part to their hit song
December, Australian rock band Juke Kartel had a big year on
Alternative Addiction in 2009, despite never having their album
"Nowhere Left To Hide" released in the US. Lead singer Toby
Rand says that the band has always been told they have an American
sound, which might explain their fast rising success in 2009, listen

Beautiful End
J.R. Richards
One of the most anticipated albums coming into 2009 was the solo
debut from Dishwalla frontman J.R. Richards, which was over three
years in the making. The self produced album from Richards
turned out to be worth the wait and nothing short of brilliant.
The title track from the album is perhaps one of Richard's best
works to date, a song that he felt so strongly about he renamed the
album to match it's title. Listen to the interview

The Script
2009 marked the year the rest of the country
discovered The Script, a band that had a huge year in 2008, just not
in the US. Scoring two top 50 hits in last year's countdown,
The Script brought their addictive sound stateside and made a huge
splash with their song Breakeven. The long overdue success in
the US was something that had dreamed of for years, listen to front

Green River Ordinance
Green River Ordinance is no stranger to
Alternative Addiction, as an unsigned band they've been featured
here for years, but when EMI signed the band in late 2008 and
released their self titled debut in February, the rest of the world
found out what makes this band so special. Using 2009 to build
their fan base, lead singer Josh Jenkins is excited about the band's
promising future, listen to his interview

All
You Did Was Save My Life
Our Lady Peace
2009 marked the return of Our Lady Peace, not
just with another album, with a album that was a true return to
their roots. It's been nearly 13 years since the Canadian rock
band exploded onto the scene, and after numerous side projects and
solo albums, Our Lady Peace seemed to have lost the luster the band
once had. That all changed with the release of "Burn Burn,"
which signaled a return to the band's rock roots, and nothing
captured that sound more than the lead off single on the album, "All
You Did Was Save My Life," the song of the year for 2009. |
