Morrison, James - Undiscovered CD Cover ArtYou Give Me Something
James Morrison

Already a household name in the UK, James Morrison was introduced to the US audience in March of 2007, with the release of his album "Undiscovered."  His raw, unconventional style of songwriting was a breath of fresh air to US radio, none more so than on his song hit "You Give Me Something" which comes in at #49 on the best songs of 2007.

Luna Halo's front man Nathan Barlowe had a very big year in 2007.  After having his entire band quit on him, and fighting his was through two previous record deals, Barlowe's band finally was able to release their self titled major label debut album in October of 2007.  "We could have given up a million times, but that’s one great thing about this band is that we won’t give up and we won’t take ‘no’ for an answer,” Barlowe told Alternative Addiction.

Graham Colton
2007 marked the return for Graham Colton, with his album "Here Right Now," an album that Colton said took over a year and a half to write, demoing over 100 songs.  "When I say wrote [100 songs], I mean it wasn’t like I had little ditties, I literally wrote over 100 songs, like full complete demoed out. It’s definitely the most honest I’ve been, and the most vulnerable, that’s why it took me so long," Colton told AA in November.

Evans Blue
Evans Blue returned in 2007 with their second album in as many years, and the lead off single, according to front man Kevin Matisyn, is about making the right choices in life.  "Its basically about the voice inside of you, telling you what to do," Matisyn explained. "What’s right and wrong, and when you don’t listen to what you know is right, the negative effects that can happen."

Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace CD Cover ArtThe Pretender
Foo Fighters
The Foo Fighters returned in 2007 with their new album "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace."  Grohl described the album in a very unique way in July of this year.  "We have moments of kick-you-in-the-teeth rock stuff, but there's a lot of power in that lower dynamic too. To be able to get a room to pin-drop silence with an acoustic song that means something is sometimes even more powerful than all the lights and lasers and amps in the world."

Train lead singer Pat Monahan released his first solo album in 2007, an album entitled "The Last of Seven."  Monahan was quick to point out however that this was not the end of his band Train.  "My plan is to release my solo CD, tour a bit and then return to Train. I'm very appreciative that Jimmy, Scott, Brandon and Johnny are so supportive of me and my solo project."  Monahan's first single from his solo album, "Her Eyes," comes in at number 22.

Lovedrug
Lovedrug returned in 2007 with their new album, "Everything Starts Where it Ends," featuring the number 12 song, "Ghost by Your Side."  Lead singer Michael Shepard told us in April of '07 that the lyrics of that song is actually part of a short story he wrote.  "Lyrically speaking, that was written about a time in my life when I was in a relationship for a long time and then it kind of ended abruptly, and it made me think a lot so I wrote a short story about it."

Matchbox Twenty
After being quoted in early 2007 as not setting a timetable for his return to the band, Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas eventually did make his was to the studio with his band to record 6 new songs for their first best of album, "Exile on Mainstream," an album that Thomas said was recorded in just a week.  "We got together for a week at my house and we all had song ideas, it's a much more raw, energetic, live-sounding record than we've done in the past."

OneRepublic - Dreaming Out Loud CD Cover ArtApologize
OneRepublic
It took the rest of America nearly all of 2007 to realize what the visitors of Alternative Addiction discovered nearly a year ago- that this is a damn good song.  "Apologize" hit number one in January of 2007 on the Top 20, and would go on to spend over six weeks at that spot.  What makes this song so addictive?  Perhaps OneRepublic drummer drummer Eddie Fisher put it best "It hits all genres, and appeals to everyone. And that’s kind of what we want to do with our music anyway, we want our music to be for everybody."
