The
Unprotected
Cavalier King
Coming in at number 50 on the charts is one of our favorite songs of
2006. The unique lyrics, catchy melody, and just all together
different sound made 'The Unprotected' one of our favorite songs of
2006. |

A
Different Kind of Pain
Cold
At number 41, we have a band the unfortunately called it quits in
2006. The Florida based band Cold announced that after five albums
and four Alternative Top 20 songs, the band would break up in
November of 2006. In what will most likely be the bands last song
ever on an end of year countdown, Cold's A Different Kind of pain
comes in at 41. |

Love
Nada Surf
While many consider them a buzz band from the 90's, Nada Surf has
really came into their own in the 2000's with their unique sound.
Their 2005 release 'Weight Is A Gift' was Co-produced by Death Cab
for Cutie's Chris Walla, and features our number 36 song, Always
Love. |

Love
Like Winter
AFI
AFI had a huge year in 2006, riding the success of their album
December Underground. Despite their success, guitarist Jade Puget
feels the band gets a false reputation of being labeled a goth rock
band when they're really not. "I think people do that because of the
way our singer dresses and looks, more than anything else," he says.
"People should base their description on our music and not on our
image." |

Dani
California
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Coming in at number 29 was a song the sparked a lot controversy in
2006. The lead off single from the Red Hot Chili Peppers new album
'Stadium Arcadium' was a song called Dani California. Shortly after
the song hit radio it began to draw comparisons to Tom Petty's "Mary
Jane's Last Dance." In fact, it sounded so similar that it's rumored
that Petty's lawyers are still considering filing charges of
plagiarism against the Chili Peppers. Despite the controversy, Dani
California still finished at 29. |

30 Seconds To Mars
30 Seconds to Mars enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2006. In addition
to going platinum with the album 'A Beautiful Lie,' winning multiple
awards and headlining sold-out tours, the quartet recently became
the first American rock act to film a video in China, when they
filmed the video for their song 'From Yesterday'. They are at
number 23 on the countdown with their hit song 'The Kill'. |

Rise
From The Ashes
Quietdrive
The Minneapolis based quintet Quietdrive debuted in 2006 with their
Butch Walker produced album When All That's Left is you. While
'Rise From The Ashes' may have been the only song to take off from
this album, it was without a doubt one of the best albums released
in 2006. |

The
River
Live
Perhaps the most anticipated album of 2006 was Live's 'Songs From
Black Mountain'. Released in June 2006, it had been nearly
three years since Live released their last album, and proved to be
well worth the wait. The album was a clear throwback to band's
earlier sounds, all the while mixing the spiritually inspired lyrics
that Live is known for. |

Stay
With Me
Radford
Radford returned in 2006 with their brand new EP 'Black Out the Sun'
which featured the hit single 'Stay With Me'. But Radford front man
Johny Mead explained that the song, although written recently, was
actually inspired by a girl he knew 8 or 9 years ago that tried to
take her life. Stay with me was voted in at #7. |

Hate
Me
Blue October
It's hard to believe that the number one song of 2006 almost didn't
make it on Blue October's album. According to lead singer
Justin Furstenfeld, the label did not want to include the song on
their 2006 release Foiled. Furstenfeld fought with the label
hard for 'Hate Me' because it meant so much to him personally, a
song about dealing with frustration and mental illness.
Perhaps that's what made this song so unforgettable, and why it was
a clear winner for song of the year in 2006. |
