Save
Me
Forty Foot Echo
This Canadian group landed on the pages of Alternative
Addiction in the spring of 2003 with their single "Save Me"
The song did considerably well on Canadian radio stations, but never
caught on in the American market. Hollywood records also
pushed the single "Brand New Day" later in the year. Despite
the bands lackluster exposure, Save Me was able to reach number six
on Top 20, and comes in at 48 for the best of 2003. |

The Ataris
The second song off their major label debut, So Long Astoria,
The Boys of Summer was a radio hit in the summer of 2003 conjuring
up memories from when this song was a hit years ago for Don Henley.
The Ataris never intended for the song to be a single, but were
pressured from their record label to release it. |

Matt Nathanson
After spending years on the Unknown Top 10, Matt Nathanson
made the jump into the spotlight in 2003, signing with Universal
Records. His brilliant debut album, Beneath These Fireworks,
featured the single, Sad Songs, which climbed to number one on the
Top 20 in just two months. Expect a big year for Matt in 2004. |

Train
Train returned in 2003 with their long awaited follow up to
"Drops Of Jupiter". We got our first taste of the new album in
April with the single "Calling All Angels". The song was an
immediate hit on both Alternative Addiction and mainstream radio and
went on to launch the bands third album "My Private Nation" into
multi-platinum status. |

Closure
Perhaps the most overlooked band of 2003 was TVT Records up
and coming band Closure. The bands incredible self titled
debut record launched a couple of hit singles, the biggest being
their song "Afterglow" which reached number one on the AA Top 20 in
the summer of 2003. |

Eve 6
Eve 6 returned in 2003 with their release titled "It's
All In Your
Head". Ironically enough, front man Max Collins got in
the head of a close friend to find the inspiration for the first
single "Think Twice". The emotional and angst filled ballad
hit number one on the AA Top 20 in the fall, and was the only hit
off the bands disappointing album. |

Radford
Perhaps the biggest surprise of 2003 was the return of
Radford. Debuting in 1999 on Alternative Addiction, Radford
had been all but left for dead at the start of year. But in
the fall of 2003, news of signing with Universal and a resurrection
of the band began to spread as the song "Fake A Smile" debuted on
the AA Top 20 in Sept. |

Something Corporate
The much anticipated return of Something Corporate came late
in 2003, as the band released its second album, North. The
first single "Space" quickly grabbed the attention of the fans at
Alternative Addiction as the song quickly climbed the AA Top 20.
Expect to hear a lot more from this incredibly tallented young band
in 2004. |

Heaven
Live
When it seemed like all had
given up on Live after their hiatus from the spotlight,
Ed Kowalczyk and the boys
returned in 2003 with an incredible album, and a brilliant first
single. The inspirational lyrics of "Heaven" provided such a
stark contrast to the angry and dark sounds that oversaturated radio
this year. The result was a number one hit for Live on both
Alternative Addiction, and radio. Perhaps its only fitting
that a year that was defined historically by War and Economic
struggles, the inspirational lyrics of Live's "Heaven" shined
through in a way that only a great song can. |
