My Darkest Days

Sick and Twisted Affair

Follow up to 2010’s fine major label debut,’ Sick and Twisted Affair’, treads familiar territory. With a nod toward Motley Crue’s unabashed sexism on the crass but catchy single ‘Casual Sex’, Matt Werst’s band tread a fine line between pop and rock with equal use of both guitar and synth and a plethora of production wizadry. Title track and opener announces the album as if the band hadn’t been away, the marching beat of ‘Nature of the Beast’ emphasizes their ability to rock , whilst the dreamy pop ballad ‘Gone’ is surely a future hit that will do more for the band than even ‘Porn Star Dancing’. Elsewhere the excellent ‘Stutter’-a cover of Joe & Mystikal’s rap song and live favourite -takes pride of place, and although the album is way too short at nine tracks it’s a case of quality over quantity on a pretty decent follow up to the debut.
