Paper Tongues

Paper Tongues

Paper Tongue’s debut album for Interscope is an excellent mix of rock and pop that could launch the band into the thick of things on the mainstream scene. The band’s vocal-driven pop mixes elements of soul and R&B into a style that’s similar to The Script and Maroon 5. Paper Tongues is only slightly similar to both of those bands, neither of those groups have put out anything as energized as this debut album. Sure there are ‘soft’ moments on the record but for the most part you’re getting drums that are almost tribal in nature and some very unpredictable music. The drums aren’t just thick- they dominate the music behind vocalist Aswan North. There are some definite notable tracks to check out here… especially on the first half of the record. It loses some points for being repetitive towards the end of the album. But really what album doesn’t? Paper Tongues have put together a debut that’s comparable to any other band in the rock/pop genre. It’s filled with distinct and energetic music that should have these guys churning out at least a couple of hits in 2010.
