Alan Wilkis has done some amazing things with Big Data. The new album, 2.0 adds to that list. Featuring guest vocals from a myriad of other acts including Rivers Cuomo, Jamie Lidell, Joywave, White Sea, Kimbra, Twin Shadow, Bear Hands, Jenn Wasner, and Dragonette, the album is an outstanding listen.
With all of the guest vocals on the record, Wilkis remains the star of the show, something that’s surprising because that’s not the case all of the time with similar releases. Even though Joywave and Cuomo star on their contributions on the record, they don’t ever detract from the music that Wilkis is mixing on the album. There are lots of DJ’s who get contributors on their records and make records similar to Big Data’s, but the difference is how unique Wilkis has made the music for his project. It takes some elements and sound from techno, the ones that don’t suck, and he added to them turning them into his own element.
2.0 is another great album that’s been released this month. Wilkis has made something refreshing for fans of any genre. All of the contributors to the release add their own element, but Wilkis’ creation remained just that. Big Data is something of an innovator and this album will allow him to keep that going.
