Basic Rock Outfit

Thank You For The Pain

Basic Rock Outfit has a reputation for playing any gig offered to them, including playing as an AC/DC tribute outfit in St Petersburg Florida recently. Although their music is a million miles away from their antipodean brethren there is a definite classic rock twist to their modern rock. Produced by Sylvia Massy Shivy and featuring Dishwalla’s Jim Wood on keyboards, Basic Rock Oufit have another string to their ever flexing bow; the outstanding vocals of Jeremy Thomas. At times reminiscent of modern rock luminaries such as Our Lady Peace and Lifehouse but with any number of retro meanderings, BRO’s debut album (it was originally released in 2005 with a different track order) has some truly outstanding moments. The ballad ‘Alabama’ is emotional without being mawkish. ‘Shell’ rocks out with loose abandon and ‘Down On Me’ skips nonchalantly along on the crest of a hooky chorus. The clawing hooks and inherent cleverness of the album only become apparent after repeated plays revealing an album that more than holds its own amongst the current crop of modern rock releases.
