Oli and Louis Leimback are Lime Cordiale. The Australian brothers just released their second album 14 Steps to a Better You. The 14 steps that are being referred are the fourteen tracks on the album. And for the most part, the fourteen songs are shiny, bright, brilliant Australian surf indie rock that’s fun to listen to over and over again.
With their debut album Lime Cordiale was doing some cool things, but it just wasn’t that memorable. “Temper Temper” and “What is Growing Up?” were some of the coolest songs of 2017, but other than that, not much was that memorable on the record. With 14 steps… the whole album is memorable and easy to sing along to. It plays like a bizarre, hook-filed, melody-driven, throwback, indie, surf rock album that’s too cool to describe without using less than five adjectives. It’s ridiculously fun on every level; from the vocals to the production nuances, to the overall vibe of the record. Everything on the record just works.
Lime Cordiale is a welcome surprise. An assumption that this record would be decent based on the band’s track record wouldn’t be out of the question, but the album being this good is unexpected. There aren’t 10 songs and four throwaway songs here, there are 14 songs and 14 steps to a better you. Listening to this record might not do that, but it will certainly lead to a better day.
