MisterWives

mini bloom EP
Artwork

MisterWives just released a preview of their upcoming LP bloom, simply called mini bloom. It's New York-based group's first released with Fueled By Ramen. The label doesn't matter that much, but hopefully vocalist/keyboardist Mandy Lee and her cohorts get more attention with a fresh start. If mini bloom is any indication of things to come, then the band’s next LP is set to be the band's best release yet.

mini bloom features five of the band's newest singles including singles "whywhywhy" and "coming up for air." The new songs preview a strong upcoming album for MisterWives. Mandy Lee's vocal sounds better than ever and the production has really been stepped up with the new material. That's not a slight on what the band has done up to this or who they've worked for, it's just a statement based on a slightly more organic approach to the music. Songs like "Stories" have some synth work in them, but they also seem to have minimal effect on the actual song. There's not as much background noise going on behind Lee's great vocal. That's the case with all five of these songs. There can be a lot going on, but the best songs are where Lee's vocal is left to do the brunt of the work. Don't get us wrong - the production is really great throughout - there's a lot of fun stuff that gets thrown through the speakers; horns, synths, drum fills - lots of nuances, but for the most part - they just let Lee run the show, as they should.

mini bloom likely is a strong foot forward for a full-length record. Honestly, I expect every single or potential single from that record to have already been released on this EP when the time comes. Still, these five songs will find who they're supposed to... they're all good songs from a good band.
