Pacific Daydream

Weezer’s Pacific Daydream is an album that the band stumbled into. They’ve actually been hard at work at another self-titled album known as The Black Album, they just happened to have a set of ten songs that fit together in theme and tone and they decided to run with it. Because of this and a myriad of other reasons, Weezer’s latest album doesn’t feel like much of an album – it feels more like an EP.

Among the reasons why this feels like an ep – there are no real risks here and it feels like some of the simpler albums that Weezer has done like Hurley, Raditude, and even The Green Album. There’s not a lot different on this album from track one to track ten.

Still, Weezer at their worst is better than a lot of bands at their best. “Mexican Fender”, “Weekend Woman”, “Happy Hour”, “QB Blitz”, and “Any Friend of Diane’s” are all good – and really fun – songs to listen to. Are they among the band’s best? Probably not. They’re still fun songs that are worthy of plenty of playlists.
Weezer’s Pacific Daydream is a quick pitstop for a band making another album. It feels and sounds like that. Still, for fans of the band, myself included, any Weezer is better than nothing from the band and this is still a welcome addition into the band’s discography.
