Simple Plan

Still Not Getting Any

Follow up to 2002’s hook filled but extremely immature ‘No Pads No Helmet, Just Balls’ sees Simple Plan attempting to cut a new niche in the pop punk market…and in their own world they achieve it. The problem is that in everyone else’s they fail. Whereas the likes of Good Charlotte and even the founders of this genre Blink 182 have progressed musically, Simple Plan seem to have concrete in their musical boots with an inability to breakout from the tried and tested pop punk scene and raise their game. Sure, all the hooks and guitar riffs are present and correct on ‘Shut Up’ and ‘Me Against The World’ to name a but a few, but why should we listen to rehashed ideas that have already been used pre-2002 by fellow Canadians Sum41 and even Treblecharger. If you already like Simple Plan this will follow on nicely, but apart from a future as music in a teen flick the future looks increasingly in doubt for this genre of music. Look out for a pop punk bubble bursting in an area near you soon.
